| The King Ranch in Texas, was founded by Richard King, a riverboat captain. In 1853, he began buying up land in Texas with a friend, Texas Ranger Captain Gideon Lewis. Novelist Edna Ferber incorporated many of the dramatic events in the King Ranch history into her novel, Giant. |
