Ken Luer counsels and represents family-owned businesses in the areas of general business law, ownership structures, debt and equity finance, contract negotiations, trademarks and trade secrets, and licensing arrangements. Ken is also an expert in mergers and acquisitions, representing both buyers and sellers of a wide range, in size and industries, of businesses. |
Ken joined Ervin, Cohen & Jessup LLP following his graduation from the University of Virginia School of Law in 1980 and has been a member of the ECJ family ever since. Ken belongs to the California Bar’s Business Law Section, has served (by appointment) on that Section’s Corporations Committee, is a Member of the Los Angeles County Bar Association, and has authored numerous articles for a variety of legal and trade publications. Ken is married and the proud father of his teenage daughter and middle-school son.

Joan Velazquez counsels and represents family-owned businesses in the areas of finance, real estate transactions, tax-free exchanges of real property, leasing, and taxation of real property. Joan graduated from the University of Southern California Law Center in 1978 and, while a student, was a Judicial Extern for the Honorable Justice Otto Kaus. Joan joined ECJ in May 1980, just months before Ken and Reeve. |
She has served in a variety of professional and civic organizations, including as a Board member of the Big Sisters of Los Angeles. Joan is married with two children, a daughter recently graduated from Boston University and a son now attending Northwestern University.

Reeve Chudd counsels and represents family-owned businesses in the areas of estate planning, trusts, tax law, and non-profit organizations. A former CPA and graduate of the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, Reeve came to the firm on the same day as Ken Luer, after completing his law studies at the University of Southern California in 1980. |
| Reeve frequently presents lectures to tax attorneys, accountants and financial advisors regarding the special treatment of family-owned businesses, and has written articles for various law and accounting journals. Throughout his legal career, Reeve has served as an officer and board member of various charitable and community organizations. Reeve is married, has an adult daughter and a young grandson. |
